Secret Shopper Scam Alert!

WLFL-TV and WRDC-TV have recently been made aware that a Secret Shopping Scam, in which consumers were mailed a check under the name of WLFL/WRDC Review, Inc, are asking for the check to be cashed and the funds used to send a Walmart money gram back to the sender of the letter, in addition to the consumer keeping some of the funds for their effort.

Unfortunately for the consumer, such a scam causes the consumer to lose thousands of dollars of their own funds because once they cash the check and spend the money, their bank will not be able to collect the funds from the check issuer because that company does not exist. In the meantime, the consumer has actually forwarded their own funds to the perpetrators by sending the money gram.

If you receive such a letter, please do not act upon it. It is a scam and WLFL-TV or WRDC-TV are not associated with the sender of the letter. Our TV stations have also been victimized in this scam by using the TV stations names and address on the check.

We have alerted the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as Walmart. If you receive such a letter, we would encourage you to immediately report it the authorities.
