  KEEP IT MOVIN' NC

Did you know?...

  • North Carolina’s youth obesity rate is the 5th worst in the Nation. One-third are overweight or obese.
  • Two-thirds (63%) of adults are overweight or obese compared to 59% in 2002, putting them at risk for cardiovascular disease.
  • Less than half (42%) of adults do not get regular physical activity.
  • About half of middle and high school students are getting the recommended amount of physical activity.
  • Healthy eating is a lifestyle, not a fad.  It needs to be a family affair that begins at an early age.
  • Children who eat breakfast are less likely to miss class, be tardy or report that they are sick than those who skip breakfast.
  • Eating meals as a family can actually improve your children’s food habits since kids tend to eat more fruits, vegetables and dairy foods at meals shared with their parents.
  • Children are more likely to eat foods that they help to prepare.
  • Active children have reduced risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol and becoming overweight.
  • Physical activity improves your mood and promotes better sleep.
  • Physical activity strengthens your heart and lungs and combats chronic diseases.
  • Physical activity accelerates fat burning and helps to manage your weight.
